Character Design | Vormator Shapes

This project was an exercise during my first semester in Illustration Visual Narrative Class. The challenge was to create a character using only specific shapes.

This character is inspired by my friend's suggestion. I was unsure about what to design, so I asked my friend for a suggestion, and he said I could try a red panda. This is my first sketch of my character.

The idea is that Noshi is a chef, and his signature dish is The Rainbow Dumplings, which I later changed to The Hell O' Dumplings. It is a spicy dumpling dish. Since Noshi is from China, I made him a chef at a Chinese restaurant. After a tutorial during my class, I added shading to Noshi by using gradients. This is the final result of Noshi.

For the card design, I created two designs. The first design is the usual Noshi card. For the second design, I made a Chef Noshi card. In the second design, I added a chef's hat and an apron to Noshi, along with chili around him to represent his signature dish, The Hell O' Dumplings. In the background of the card, I drew a doodle with the low opacity brush tool.
